Celebrating Community and Growth: Highlights from Cloverdale Catholic School

As we approach the end of another school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the wonderful events and moments that have made this term so memorable at Cloverdale Catholic School. From spiritual milestones to field trips and special celebrations, our students and staff have truly embodied the spirit of community, learning, and joy!

A Special First Communion

Last weekend, we celebrated First Communion, a beautiful milestone for our Grade 2 students. It was a privilege to share this special day with Ms. A, our dedicated Grade 2 teacher, and a group of excited, beaming students. Their joy and reverence reminded us all of the importance of faith and community in our school.

Inspiring Leadership with Archbishop Miller

Each year, our Student Leadership Team has the unique opportunity to visit with Archbishop Miller. This annual trip is a highlight for our student leaders, who get to share all the amazing initiatives they’re involved in, both within our school and in the larger community. Archbishop Miller is always generous with his time, spending nearly an hour engaging with the students and encouraging their growth as young leaders.

Exploring Victoria: Grade 5 Field Trip

Two weeks ago, our Grade 5 class embarked on an exciting field trip to Victoria. The students were enthralled by the wonders of the Royal BC Museum and the grandeur of the Legislative buildings. It was a long day packed with learning and adventure, and I know it’s an experience they’ll cherish for years to come.

Multicultural Week: Celebrating Diversity

Multicultural Day is always a highlight at Cloverdale Catholic! We dedicate an entire week to celebrating the diverse backgrounds of our students, culminating in a day where everyone is invited to wear traditional dress. This year, two of our students from Korea proudly showcased their heritage, reminding us all of the beauty in our differences.

Meet Maverick: Our School Pet

Did you know we have a school pet? Maverick, our friendly Bearded Dragon, has become an emotional support companion for many students. He brings comfort and smiles to our halls, especially to the little boy featured in the photo, who has formed a special bond with Maverick.

Spirit Day Surprises

The first Monday of every month is Spirit Day, and our last one was a blast! We surprised the students with bouncy castles and snow cones, creating an atmosphere of pure joy and excitement. It’s moments like these that remind us how important it is to celebrate together as a school family.

Growing Together: The School Garden

Our school garden is a labour of love, maintained by students and staff alike. From planting berries and lettuce to harvesting herbs, the garden teaches responsibility and teamwork. The best part? Enjoying a fresh, homemade salad together!

Celebrating Student Work

One of my favourite parts of the job is when students visit to share their work. Recently, a group of proud Kindergarteners came by to show me their journals. Their progress in printing and storytelling this year has been truly impressive!

Coming Together in Prayer

After the Lapu Lapu tragedy, our school community came together to create a prayer wall. Students wrote heartfelt messages of hope and prayer, which we laminated and brought to the site of the tragedy as part of the memorial. It was a powerful reminder of the strength and compassion of our community.

Creative Expressions: Palm Sunday Art

Finally, I have to highlight the creativity of our Grade 2 students, who shared their beautiful Palm Sunday art. Their artwork captured the spirit of the season and added a splash of colour and joy to our school.

As we look back on these moments, I am filled with gratitude for our students, staff, and families. Thank you for making Cloverdale Catholic School such a vibrant, caring, and inspiring place to learn and grow. Here’s to many more memories together!
